Shopping in central Oslo

Oslo has excellent shopping opportunities. Many of Oslo’s top-end shops and shopping centres, such as Eger, Steen & Strøm, Glasmagasinet, House of Oslo and Paléet are within easy walking distance of Hotel Continental.

In addition to the various shops and department stores, Oslo also has two lively shopping streets: the central pedestrian street Karl Johans gate is home to all the major chains, while the more upmarket Bogstadveien is home to many designer boutiques.

Aker Brygge

The quayside development Aker Brygge, which is now one of Oslo’s most popular attractions, is a short walk from Hotel Continental. The area offers many attractions in a car-free zone, including 65 shops and eateries. The former docks have received much attention internationally and have won several prizes and awards, including the much-coveted international Difa Award for Europe's best quarter. More than 6 million people visit Aker Brygge each year.

Grünerløkka

The Grünerløkka quarter of Oslo has grown into a dynamic, multicultural area. It is home to numerous small galleries and exhibitions, designer shops, bookshops, and many cafés and restaurants serving exotic food from around the world.

Sandvika storsenter

Sandvika, some 15 kilometres south of Oslo, has Scandinavia’s largest shopping centre, in terms of number of shops. More than one kilometre long, the mall has an impressive variety of goods in 180 shops ranging from exclusive designer outlets to major chain stores.
